A PDF to PNG converter rasterises each page of a PDF into a PNG image. PNG uses lossless compression, which means the rendered page is stored pixel-for-pixel with no compression artefacts around letters, table borders, or thin lines — the reason PNG is the right choice whenever a page is mostly text, diagrams, or vector graphics rather than photographs.
PNG is also the only common image format here that supports an alpha channel. Turn on the transparent background option and the paper-white areas of the page are exported as genuine transparency, so a logo, stamp, signature, or diagram lifted out of a PDF can be dropped straight onto a coloured slide or web page without a white box around it.

DPI decides how many pixels each page is rendered with. The pixel column below assumes a standard US Letter page (8.5 × 11 in). File size grows with roughly the square of the DPI, so doubling the resolution quadruples the output.

It can. Enable the Transparent background option and the areas of the page that have no drawn content are exported as real alpha transparency instead of white. Leave it off and pages are rendered on a solid white background, which is usually what you want for full document pages.
