YouTube thumbnail sizes and resolutions
YouTube stores several copies of every thumbnail. The maximum-resolution version only exists when the creator uploaded a custom thumbnail or the video was uploaded in HD. This tool checks which sizes are really available, so you never download a grey placeholder.

How this thumbnail downloader compares
We reviewed the YouTube thumbnail downloaders on Google's first page. Most show a list of fixed image links, including sizes that don't exist for that video, and surround them with ads. Some claim 1080p or 4K, but YouTube doesn't store thumbnails larger than 1280 × 720, so those files are upscaled.

Can you use a downloaded YouTube thumbnail?
Thumbnails are publicly accessible images, and saving one for personal reference is common practice. They are still copyrighted by the creator. Reusing a thumbnail in your own video, website or advertising generally needs the creator's permission, unless your use falls under fair use or fair dealing, such as commentary, criticism or news reporting.
When you download your own thumbnails, there's no problem. It's a quick way to recover artwork after losing the original file. For someone else's thumbnail, credit the channel and link to the video, and ask the creator when in doubt. This page is not legal advice.
5 frequently asked questions about grabbing YouTube thumbnails
How many thumbnails can I grab at once?
Up to 50 videos per batch. Paste them one per line, or separated by spaces or commas. If you paste more, the first 50 are processed and the page tells you how many were skipped.
Can I grab thumbnails from a whole playlist?
Not directly from a playlist URL, because that would require YouTube's API. Copy the individual video links from the playlist, or export them from a tool you already use, and paste them in.
What's inside the ZIP?
One image per video: the highest resolution YouTube stores for that video, in the format you chose, named after the video title. Videos that are private or deleted are left out.
Why does one of my videos show no thumbnails?
The video is probably private, removed or region-restricted, or the ID has a typo. YouTube doesn't serve thumbnails for videos that no longer exist.
Does the grabber send my list to a server?
No. Your browser requests the images and titles straight from YouTube's public endpoints. We don't receive or store the links you paste.
