What is an M4A to MP3 converter?
M4A is an MPEG-4 audio file, usually containing AAC audio and sometimes lossless ALAC. iPhones save Voice Memos as M4A, and iTunes and Apple Music use it for downloads. Example: a 30-minute meeting recording
A 30-minute Voice Memo converted at 128 kbps mono gives an MP3 of about 29 MB (128 kbit/s × 1,800 s ÷ 8), which uploads to any transcription service. At 192 kbps it would be about 43 MB with no benefit for speech.
What to expect from the result
Both M4A (AAC) and MP3 are lossy, so converting re-encodes the audio and cannot improve it. Choose a bitrate at least as high as the source. Lossless ALAC files may use the FFmpeg fallback in some browsers, which downloads about 32 MB once. Copy-protected .m4p files are not supported.
