Why convert Word to clean HTML?

Copying from Word into a website or CMS brings along hidden spans, fonts and inline styles that break your design. Word’s own “Save as Web Page” is even worse. This converter reads the document structure instead of its appearance: Heading 1 becomes h1, bulleted lists become ul, tables become table, bold becomes strong and links stay links. The result is short, clean HTML that takes on your site’s styling. Images can be embedded as data URIs or left out.

How to convert Word to HTML

  1. Open the .docx file.
  2. Choose whether to keep images (embedded as data URIs).
  3. Check the preview on the right.
  4. Copy the HTML, or download a complete .html file.

Getting the best HTML

  • Use Word’s built-in styles (Heading 1, Heading 2, List Bullet) rather than manual formatting; they map to proper HTML elements.
  • Font, colour and size choices are dropped on purpose so your site’s CSS applies.
  • Turn off images for a lighter result and upload images to your CMS separately.
  • Conversion notes list any styles that had no HTML equivalent.

Why use this Word to HTML converter

  • Clean, semantic markupUses document styles (Heading 1, List, Quote) to produce h1, ul, blockquote and so on, with no inline CSS.
  • Ready for any CMSPaste into WordPress, Webflow, Shopify, Ghost or an email template without stray formatting.
  • HTML, text and PDFCopy clean HTML or plain text, or print or save the pages as PDF from your browser.
  • Your document stays privateThe .docx is opened and rendered in your browser. Contracts, CVs and reports are never uploaded to a server or to Microsoft.

Common uses

  • Blog posts. Move drafts from Word into your CMS without formatting clean-up.
  • Help centres. Convert documentation written in Word.
  • Email newsletters. Start from simple HTML your email tool can style.

Example: the sample proposal as HTML

The sample becomes h1 headings (Word’s Title and Heading 1 both map to h1), an ordered list for the timeline, a table for the costs, strong for the bold phrase and an a element for the link: 936 bytes of HTML in total.

What to expect from the result

Visual formatting (fonts, colours, spacing) is intentionally not kept. Text boxes, charts and SmartArt are not converted. Old .doc files are not supported.

Word to HTML Converter questions

How do I convert Word to HTML?

Open the .docx file here. The HTML appears instantly; copy it or download a complete .html file.

Why is the HTML so much shorter than Word’s?

Word’s own export keeps every visual detail as inline styles. This converter keeps only the structure (headings, lists, tables, emphasis, links), which is what websites need.

Are images included?

Yes, embedded as Base64 data URIs by default. Untick “Keep images” to leave them out.

Can I open .doc files?

No. Old .doc files (Word 97–2003) use a different binary format. Open them in Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs and save as .docx first.

Is my document uploaded?

No. The file is read and rendered by your browser on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server, so it is safe for confidential documents.
