Excel to CSV Converter

Convert an Excel workbook to CSV files in your browser, with readable dates and the right delimiter.

  • One or all sheets
  • Comma, semicolon or tab
  • UTF-8 with BOM option
  • No upload

Drop an Excel (.xlsx) file here. CSV, TSV, XLSX and Parquet all work.

How XLSX to CSV conversion works

CSV is the universal format for importing data into databases, CRMs, accounting tools and scripts, but it holds one table of plain text, while an Excel workbook can hold many sheets with formatting. Converting means choosing a sheet and writing its cell values as text. This converter shows each sheet first so you can check it, writes dates as ISO dates (YYYY-MM-DD) rather than Excel serial numbers, quotes values that contain the delimiter, and can save every sheet as its own CSV in a ZIP.

How to convert Excel to CSV

  1. Open the .xlsx file.
  2. Pick the sheet in the tabs and check the preview.
  3. Choose the delimiter, and UTF-8 with BOM if the CSV will be opened in Excel.
  4. Download the CSV, or all sheets as a ZIP.

Good to know about Excel files

  • Formulas show their last calculated value, as saved by Excel. If a file was never opened in Excel, the formula text is shown instead.
  • Hidden sheets are listed and marked.
  • Merged cells show their value in the top-left cell only.
  • Old .xls files (Excel 97–2003) need to be saved as .xlsx first.

Why use this Excel to CSV converter

  • Readable datesDates and times are written as 2026-03-01 or 2026-03-01 09:30:00, not 46082.
  • All sheets at onceConvert a whole workbook to a ZIP of CSV files, named after the sheets.
  • Export what you needDownload the data, or just the rows matching your search, as CSV, TSV, JSON, Excel or a Markdown table.
  • Private by designThe file is read by your browser and never uploaded, so customer lists, payroll exports and financial data stay on your computer.

Excel to CSV Converter questions

How do I convert Excel to CSV without Excel?

Open the .xlsx file here, check the preview and download it as CSV. Nothing needs to be installed.

Why does my CSV look wrong in Excel?

Excel assumes your system encoding. Tick “UTF-8 BOM” so accented characters open correctly, and use semicolons if your region uses commas as decimal separators.

Do leading zeros survive?

Yes. Values stored as text in Excel, such as 00123, are written exactly as they are.

Are formulas kept?

CSV holds values only, so each formula’s last calculated value is written.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The file is opened and processed by your browser on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server and the page works offline once loaded.
