What is an Excel viewer?
An Excel viewer opens spreadsheets created in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers or LibreOffice (saved as .xlsx) so you can read them without the full program. This one runs entirely in your browser: it shows every worksheet as a table, formats dates, times and percentages from the cell styles, and adds tools Excel hides away, such as instant search across all cells, one-click sorting and per-column statistics.
How to view an Excel file online
- Choose Open File and pick the .xlsx or .xlsm file, or drag it onto the page.
- Switch between sheets with the tabs above the table.
- Sort, search and click cells to inspect values and column stats.
- Export the current sheet, or all sheets, as CSV, JSON, Excel or Markdown.
Good to know about Excel files
- Formulas show their last calculated value, as saved by Excel. If a file was never opened in Excel, the formula text is shown instead.
- Hidden sheets are listed and marked.
- Merged cells show their value in the top-left cell only.
- Old .xls files (Excel 97–2003) need to be saved as .xlsx first.
Why use this Excel viewer
- Search, sort and inspectSort any column, search every cell, click a cell to see its full value, and get column stats: type, blanks, unique values, min, max, sum and average.
- Handles large filesOnly the rows on screen are drawn, so files with hundreds of thousands of rows scroll smoothly. Search and sort the whole file instantly.
- Export what you needDownload the data, or just the rows matching your search, as CSV, TSV, JSON, Excel or a Markdown table.
- Private by designThe file is read by your browser and never uploaded, so customer lists, payroll exports and financial data stay on your computer.

What to expect from the result
Read-only. Charts, images, colours and conditional formatting are not shown, only cell values. .xls (BIFF) and .ods files are not supported.
Excel Viewer questions
Is there a free Excel viewer?
Yes, this one. It opens .xlsx files in your browser at no cost, with no sign-up and no upload.
Are formulas calculated?
The viewer shows the value Excel saved for each formula, which is what you see in Excel. Formulas are not recalculated.
Does it open .xls files?
No, only .xlsx and .xlsm. Save old .xls files as .xlsx in Excel, LibreOffice or Google Sheets first.
Can I edit the spreadsheet?
No, it is a viewer. You can export the data to CSV, JSON or a new .xlsx and edit it elsewhere.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The file is opened and processed by your browser on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server and the page works offline once loaded.
