Double Click Test
Single-click steadily. Any click that registers twice is flagged with the exact time between the two presses.
- Per-button detection
- Millisecond timing
- Adjustable threshold
- No install
What is a double click test?
A double click test checks whether your mouse turns one press into two. Mouse buttons use small metal switches that wear over time. When the contacts bounce, the computer sees two presses a few milliseconds apart and opens files or fires twice in games. This test measures the time between consecutive presses of each button and flags any that are closer than a threshold you set, 80 ms by default. People rarely double-click faster than about 60–100 ms, so flagged presses point to the switch rather than your finger.
How to check if your mouse is double-clicking
- Move the pointer into the test box.
- Single-click the left button slowly and steadily for 20–30 seconds. Repeat with the right and middle buttons.
- Watch the verdict and the list of press intervals. Flagged intervals are highlighted amber.
- Lower the threshold to 40 ms for a strict test, or raise it if you click very quickly on purpose.
Fixing mouse button problems
- Unwanted double clicks are almost always a worn switch. Blowing out dust can help briefly; replacing the switch, or the mouse under warranty, fixes it.
- Check software: some mouse utilities and accessibility settings change double-click speed or remap buttons.
- Wireless mice: low batteries and interference can cause missed or repeated clicks. Charge it and move the receiver closer.
- Scroll jumps: clean the wheel, and check whether smooth scrolling or a free-spin mode is enabled.
Why use this double click test
- Exact timingsSee the milliseconds between presses, which is useful evidence for a warranty claim.
- Every buttonTests left, right, middle and side buttons separately.
- Nothing leaves your deviceMouse input is processed by your browser on this device. There is no upload, no server-side recording and no account.
- No download or driverRuns in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, Android and iPhone.
When to run a double click test
- Files opening on single click. Confirm the switch, not Windows settings, is to blame.
- Dragging that lets go. Bouncing switches also drop held clicks; watch for extra presses while dragging.
- Gaming misfires. Catch double shots or double jumps from one press.
- Warranty evidence. Note the flagged timings when you contact support.

Example: occasional double clicks on the left button
After 50 single clicks, two are flagged at 18 ms and 24 ms. That is far faster than a person can click, so the switch is bouncing. Some gaming mice offer a debounce-time setting in their software; raising it can hide the fault until you replace the mouse.
What to expect from the result
The test sees clicks the operating system passes to the browser. Mouse software with its own debounce or macro settings can hide or add clicks. Intentional very fast clicking (butterfly or jitter clicking) can also be flagged.
Double Click Test questions
How do I know if my mouse is double-clicking?
Single-click steadily in the test box for 30 seconds. If any presses are flagged, the mouse registered two clicks less than the threshold apart, faster than an intentional double click.
Why does my mouse double-click when I single-click?
The micro-switch under the button is worn or dirty, so its contacts bounce and send two signals. It is very common on mice that are a few years old.
What threshold should I use?
The default 80 ms works for most people. Use 40–50 ms for a strict test that only catches switch bounce, or raise it if you get false flags when clicking deliberately fast.
Can a mouse that double-clicks be fixed?
Cleaning sometimes helps for a while. Replacing the switch or the mouse is the lasting fix. Some mice let you increase debounce time in their software.
Is Windows double-click speed the same thing?
No. Windows double-click speed sets how quickly you must click twice to open something. The double-click fault happens when one physical press is sent as two.
