Converting GIF to PNG
GIF is limited to 256 colours per frame and is mostly used for animations. PNG is lossless, supports full colour and smooth transparency, and is better for still images. This converter saves the first frame of a GIF as a PNG or, with Extract every frame turned on, decodes each frame of an animated GIF in your browser and saves them all as numbered PNG files in a ZIP, ready for editing, stickers or sprite sheets.
How to convert GIF to PNG
- Open or drop one or more GIFs.
- Turn on Extract every frame to split animations, or leave it off for a single PNG.
- Select Convert.
- Download the PNG, or the ZIP of frames.
GIF frame tips
- Frame extraction uses the browser’s ImageDecoder API, available in Chrome, Edge and recent Firefox and Safari.
- Frames are numbered in order: name-01.png, name-02.png and so on.
- GIFs that store only the changes between frames are composited so each PNG is a complete image.
- Up to 1,000 frames are extracted per GIF.
Why use this gif to png converter
- No upload, no size capImages are converted by your own browser. Nothing is sent to a server, so there is no queue, no file-size limit and nothing to delete afterwards.
- Frame extractor includedSplit an animated GIF into numbered PNG frames, keeping each frame’s transparency.
- Batch convert with ZIPDrop a whole folder of images and download them together as one ZIP file.
- Location data removedCamera details and GPS coordinates are not copied into the converted file.
Common uses
- Edit an animation. Extract frames to retouch in an image editor.
- Stickers and emojis. Pull a single clean frame from a GIF.

Example: frames from a reaction GIF
A 48-frame GIF becomes reaction-01.png to reaction-48.png in one ZIP, each with its transparent background preserved.
What to expect from the result
In browsers without ImageDecoder, only the first frame is converted. PNG frames do not keep the GIF’s timing information.
GIF to PNG Converter questions
Does GIF to PNG keep transparency?
Yes. Transparent pixels in the GIF stay transparent in the PNG.
Can I extract all frames from an animated GIF?
Yes. Turn on Extract every frame and you get a ZIP of numbered PNGs, one per frame.
Will the PNG look better than the GIF?
It will look the same, because the colours come from the GIF. PNG simply stores them without GIF’s 256-colour limit for any later edits.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Conversion happens in your browser on your device. You can check in your browser’s developer tools: no image data leaves the page.
Can I convert many files at once?
Yes. Open or drop as many files as you like, select Convert, then download them one by one or all together as a ZIP.
