Why convert WebP to GIF?

Animated WebP files are smaller than GIFs and common on websites and messaging apps, but many apps, forums and older devices only play GIF animations. This converter decodes each WebP frame in your browser, keeps the frame durations, builds an optimised palette per frame and writes an animated GIF that loops like the original. Still WebP images are converted to a single-frame GIF, or to PNG or JPG if you prefer.

How to convert WebP to GIF

  1. Open or drop your WebP files.
  2. Keep GIF selected for animations, or choose PNG or JPG for stills.
  3. Optionally set a maximum size to make the GIF smaller.
  4. Convert and download the GIF.

WebP to GIF tips

  • GIFs are larger than WebPs and limited to 256 colours per frame; photographic animations may show slight banding.
  • Set a maximum size such as 480 px to keep the GIF small.
  • Animated decoding needs the ImageDecoder API (Chrome, Edge and recent Firefox and Safari).
  • For video, use the video to GIF converter instead.

Why use this webp to gif converter

  • No upload, no size capImages are converted by your own browser. Nothing is sent to a server, so there is no queue, no file-size limit and nothing to delete afterwards.
  • Animation and timing keptEvery frame and its duration is carried over, so the GIF plays at the original speed.
  • Batch convert with ZIPDrop a whole folder of images and download them together as one ZIP file.
  • Location data removedCamera details and GPS coordinates are not copied into the converted file.

Common uses

  • Stickers and reactions. Share animated WebP stickers where only GIF works.
  • Forums and older apps. Post animations on sites that reject WebP.
  • Email. Many email clients play GIF but not WebP.
  • Presentations. Insert animations into slides.

Example: a sticker for a forum

sticker.webp (24 frames, 160 KB) becomes sticker.gif at 512 px, about 400–600 KB, playing at the same speed.

What to expect from the result

GIF supports only fully transparent or fully opaque pixels, so soft shadows become hard-edged. In browsers without ImageDecoder, only the first frame is converted.

WebP to GIF Converter questions

Can I convert animated WebP to GIF?

Yes. Every frame and its timing is converted into an animated GIF that loops.

Why is the GIF larger than the WebP?

GIF uses older, less efficient compression. Reduce the maximum size to make it smaller.

Is there a watermark?

No. There is no watermark, sign-up or limit.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Conversion happens in your browser on your device. You can check in your browser’s developer tools: no image data leaves the page.

Can I convert many files at once?

Yes. Open or drop as many files as you like, select Convert, then download them one by one or all together as a ZIP.
