What is a Pictionary word generator?

A Pictionary word generator picks the word the next player has to draw, so nobody has to think one up and nobody sees it in advance. These words were chosen to be drawable: animals, everyday objects, food, actions, jobs, places, nature and characters, plus phrases and idioms for players who want a challenge, and a separate Christmas set. Easy words are single things anyone can sketch, medium words need more detail or a clever idea, and hard words are phrases, landmarks and unusual objects. Words do not repeat until the whole deck has been used. A round timer, optional team scores and a hide-until-tapped mode let you run the game from one device.

How to play Pictionary with this generator

  1. Pictionary is already selected. Keep the default categories or tap them on and off; Christmas switches to holiday words.
  2. Pick a difficulty: Easy for children, Medium for most groups, Hard for experienced players, or Mixed.
  3. Set the timer (60 seconds is standard) and choose 2, 3 or 4 teams if you want to keep score.
  4. The drawer presses Next word, or turns on Hide each word until tapped and taps to see it privately, then starts the timer and draws.
  5. When the team guesses, press Got it to add a point and get the next word. Press Next team when the turn ends.

Pictionary rules in one minute

  • Split into two or more teams of at least two players. Each team needs paper or a whiteboard and a pen.
  • One player on the team sees the word and draws it. No letters, numbers, spoken clues or gestures.
  • The rest of the team shouts guesses until someone says the word or the timer runs out. Similar words do not count unless you agree they do.
  • A correct guess scores a point. The drawing passes to the next team, and each player takes a turn as the drawer.
  • Play to an agreed score, such as 10 points, or for a set number of rounds.

Why use this Pictionary generator

  • Words picked to be drawnNo abstract filler. Every easy and medium word is something you can sketch in under a minute.
  • Timer and scores in one placeStart the countdown, add a point and pass the turn on the same screen. No second app, no sand timer, no score sheet.
  • Fair for every ageSeparate easy, medium and hard decks let children and adults play the same game. Change the level between turns in one tap.
  • Works like a real deckEvery word comes up once before anything repeats, and you can see how many are left.
  • Pass the phone safelyHide each word until tapped, so only the player whose turn it is sees it.

Where people play it

  • Family game night. Mixed difficulty keeps kids and grandparents in the same game.
  • Classrooms. Draw vocabulary words on the board as a warm-up or end-of-term game.
  • Video calls. The drawer reads the word on their phone and draws on a shared whiteboard.
  • Team building. Hard words and idioms make a quick, low-prep office game.
  • Kids parties. Easy words and a 90-second timer for young artists.
  • Drawing practice. Use a random word as a daily sketch prompt.

Example: family game night with two teams

Choose Mixed difficulty, 60 seconds and 2 teams, and turn on Hide each word until tapped so the drawer can look at the word privately. Team 1 draws first: tap to see the word, start the timer and draw on paper or a whiteboard. Each correct guess is Got it (+1); a word nobody can get is Skip. When the beep sounds, press Next team. First team to 10 points wins.

What to expect from the result

The generator gives you the words, a timer and a score sheet; you still need paper, a whiteboard or a drawing app to draw on. The words are in English and written for players in the US and UK, so a few references, such as some landmarks, may be less familiar elsewhere. Printed cards are picked at random from the categories and difficulty you chose.

Pictionary word generator FAQ

What are good Pictionary words?

Good Pictionary words are things people can picture straight away and draw in a few lines: a kite, a snowman, a lighthouse. Medium and hard words add actions (walk the dog), places (haunted house) and phrases (raining cats and dogs) that need more creative drawing.

Are there easy Pictionary words for kids?

Yes. Choose Easy. Those words are single, familiar things such as cat, pizza, rainbow and robot, which young children can draw and guess.

How do I stop the other team seeing the word?

Turn on Hide each word until tapped. Each new word stays covered until the drawer taps the button, so you can pass the phone around.

Can I print Pictionary cards?

Yes. Under Printable cards, choose how many cards and Letter or A4 paper, then save a PDF or print. Each page has 12 cards with cut lines, using the categories and difficulty you picked.

How long should each Pictionary turn be?

The board game uses a one-minute sand timer, so 60 seconds is the default. Use 90 or 120 seconds for young children or hard words, or 30 seconds for a fast round.

Do words repeat?

Not until every word in the categories you picked has come up once. Then the deck is shuffled again and a new round starts. The counter under the card shows how many words are left.

Do I need an app or an account?

No. It runs in any browser on a phone, tablet, laptop or smart TV. There is no account, no download and no ads between turns, and the words, timer and scores all stay on your device.
