What is a PSD viewer?
PSD is Adobe Photoshop’s native format: a layered document with groups, blend modes, text, masks and effects. PSB is the same format for very large documents. Without Photoshop most apps show at best a flat thumbnail. This viewer reads the file in your browser with the open-source ag-psd library: it shows the saved full-resolution composite, lists every layer and group with blend mode and opacity, lets you hide layers and see the result, extracts the text and font names from text layers, and exports the image or individual layers.
How to open a PSD file
- Choose Open File and pick a .psd or .psb, or drag it onto the page.
- Zoom and pan the preview; use the layer list to hide or show layers.
- Check the Document panel for size, resolution, colour mode and fonts.
- Export as PNG, JPG or WebP, or download every layer as PNG.
Good to know about PSD files
- For the most accurate preview, save PSDs with File → Preferences → File Handling → Maximize PSD Compatibility.
- Fonts are listed by their PostScript names; install them before editing the text elsewhere.
- Hidden layers in the file start hidden here too; click the eye to show them.
- Smart objects show their rendered content; the embedded originals are not extracted.
Why use this PSD viewer
- See every layerBrowse the layer tree with groups, blend modes and opacity, hide layers to check the composition, and save any layer as a transparent PNG.
- Document detailsPixel size, print size at the saved resolution, colour mode, bit depth, layer counts, fonts and the text of every text layer.
- Export in one clickDownload PNG, JPG or WebP at full size or scaled down, or every layer as PNGs in a ZIP.
- Your designs stay privateFiles are opened in your browser and never uploaded, so client artwork and unreleased designs stay on your computer.
Common uses
- Designer hand-off. Check a PSD from a designer or a stock site without a Creative Cloud licence.
- Developers. Grab layer images and read text and font names for a build.
- Client approvals. Preview mock-ups on any computer.
- Quick conversions. Turn PSDs into PNG or JPG for the web.

Example: a social media banner
The sample is a 640 × 400 banner with a gradient background, a Scene group holding a sun (Screen blend) and hills (90% opacity), a headline, and a hidden draft note you can reveal with the eye icon.
What to expect from the result
Layer effects (shadows, strokes), masks and adjustment layers are not applied when the image is rebuilt from layers. CMYK and 32-bit documents may not display correctly. Very large PSB files are limited by browser memory.
PSD Viewer questions
How do I open a PSD file without Photoshop?
Open it here in your browser: choose Open File and pick the .psd. The image and its layers appear instantly.
Why does my PSD look different from Photoshop?
Photoshop saves a flattened preview when “Maximize compatibility” is on, and that is shown exactly. Without it, or when you hide layers, the image is rebuilt from the layers, and layer effects, masks and adjustment layers are not applied.
Can I extract layers from a PSD?
Yes. Click the download icon next to a layer, or All layers (ZIP) to save every layer as a transparent PNG.
Can I edit the PSD?
No. This is a viewer and converter. Use Photoshop, Photopea, GIMP or Affinity to edit.
Are my files uploaded?
No. The file is read and rendered in your browser on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server.
