Rotate an image online without losing quality

Rotating an image turns it around its center. A 90° or 180° turn is lossless in this editor: the picture keeps every pixel and the width and height swap when needed, which is how you fix a phone photo that came out sideways. For a tilted horizon or a crooked scan, the Straighten slider rotates by any angle up to 45° in tenths of a degree and zooms in just enough to fill the frame, so you do not get empty corners. Because this is a full layer editor, you can also rotate a single layer, such as a sticker or a text box, by dragging its round handle.

How to rotate an image

  1. Choose Open File and pick the image, or drop or paste it into the editor.
  2. Choose 90° left, 90° right or 180° in the bar above the photo. The canvas turns with it.
  3. To fix a tilt, drag the Straighten slider. Use the arrow keys on the slider for small steps.
  4. Choose Save image and download PNG, JPG or WebP at full size.

Why rotate images here

When people rotate images

  • Phone photos that open sideways or upside down

Example: a sideways phone photo and a tilted horizon

A landscape photo from a phone opens on its side because the app that sent it dropped the orientation data. Choose 90° right and the canvas swaps from 3024 × 4032 to 4032 × 3024. The horizon is still a little crooked, so drag Straighten to 1.6°: the editor zooms in slightly to hide the corners. Save as JPG at 92% quality.

What to expect from the result

Straightening by a few degrees crops a thin strip from the edges, because a tilted rectangle cannot fill the frame otherwise. Rotations other than 90° steps resample the pixels, which softens fine detail very slightly. Location and camera details are not copied into the saved file.

Rotate image FAQ

How do I rotate an image 90 degrees?

Open it and choose 90° left or 90° right above the photo. The width and height swap so nothing is cut off. Choose Save image to download the turned picture.

Why does my photo show up sideways?

Phones store photos in one direction and add a note saying how to turn them. Some apps and websites ignore that note. This editor reads it when you open the photo; if it still looks sideways, rotate it 90° and save. The saved file has the correct orientation built in.

Can I rotate by a custom angle?

Yes. Use the Straighten slider for anything between minus 45 and 45 degrees, or select the layer and type an exact angle in the Rotation box in the panel. Dragging the round handle while holding Shift snaps to 15° steps.

Does rotating an image reduce its quality?

Turns of 90°, 180° and 270° move pixels without changing them. Small angle turns resample the image slightly. Saving as JPG or WebP adds normal compression, so use 90% quality or PNG if you want to keep the most detail.

Which file types can I open and save?

You can open JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF (the first frame), BMP, SVG, HEIC photos from an iPhone and layered PSD files. You can save PNG, JPG or WebP with a quality slider and a size option, copy the result to the clipboard, or save a layered PSD to keep editing later.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. The editor runs in your browser tab and reads your files directly from your device. There is no upload step, no account and no server copy. When you close the tab, the working copy is gone unless you saved it.
