What is an online score keeper?

An online score keeper replaces the paper and pencil at game night. Each player or team gets a card with their score, quick buttons for common points and a box for any amount, including negative points for penalties. The keeper highlights who is in the lead and shows the standings. Set a winning score, such as 500 for Uno or 21 for cornhole, and it announces the winner when someone gets there. For games where the lowest score wins, like Hearts or golf, switch on Lowest score wins. Scores are saved in this browser, so a game can run over several evenings.

How to keep score

  1. Type each player’s or team’s name on their card. Select Add player for more than two, up to 24.
  2. Tap +1, +2 or +5 for quick points, or type any amount, including a negative one, and select Add.
  3. Set Play to if your game ends at a score, and switch on Lowest score wins for games like Hearts or golf.
  4. Check the standings on the right. The leader is marked, and the winner is announced when the target is reached.
  5. Select Undo to take back the last change, or Reset all to start a new game with the same players.

Common winning scores
GamePlay toWho winsNote
Uno500HighestPoints come from the cards left in other players’ hands
Hearts100LowestThe game ends when anyone reaches 100
Spades500HighestSome groups play to 300
Cornhole21HighestSome backyard rules say you must land on exactly 21
Table tennis11HighestWin by two points: keep playing at 10 all
Pickleball11HighestWin by two points
Golf (card game)No targetLowestUsually nine rounds

Example: a game of Hearts

Add four players, set Play to 100 and switch on Lowest score wins. After each hand, type the points each player took and select Add. When Sam passes 100 after the ninth hand, the game ends and the keeper names Priya, on 61, as the winner. Undo is there if someone enters a hand twice.

What to expect from the result

Scores stay in this browser on this device, so they do not sync between phones. The keeper adds up the points you enter; it does not know any game’s rules beyond the target score and whether high or low wins, so win-by-two and similar rules are up to you. Save a CSV to keep a record of the game.

Score keeper questions

How do I keep score online for free?

Type the players’ names, then tap the quick buttons or type the points for each turn and select Add. Totals, standings and the leader update straight away. There is no sign-up, and scores are saved in your browser.

Can I add negative points?

Yes. Type a negative number such as -10 and select Add, or use the -1 button. Scores can go below zero in the score keeper.

Does it work for games where the lowest score wins?

Yes. Switch on Lowest score wins. With a target set, the game ends when anyone reaches it and the player with the lowest total is named the winner, which is how Hearts works.

How many players can I add?

Up to 24 players or teams. Each has its own card. Keys 1 to 9 add a point to the first nine players.

Is my count stored online?

No. The counter runs in your browser and saves to this browser’s local storage only. There is no account and no upload. Clearing your site data or using a private window removes the saved count, so save a CSV if you need a permanent record.
