What is Zalgo text?

Zalgo text is ordinary text buried under dozens of Unicode combining marks: accents, dots and strokes that stack above, through and below each letter until it looks corrupted or possessed. The name comes from an early-2000s internet horror meme. Because the marks are standard Unicode, Zalgo text can be pasted into most apps and keeps its creepy look, which makes it popular for Halloween posts, horror games, Discord servers and memes. This generator lets you set the amount of marks in each direction, shuffle the pattern and remove the marks again.

How to make Zalgo text

  1. Type or paste your text.
  2. Pick a preset (Subtle, Glitchy, Cursed or Chaos) or set the marks above, through and below.
  3. Select Shuffle for a new random pattern.
  4. Copy the result and paste it into your post, bio, message or game.

Zalgo tips

  • Subtle settings stay readable and work in more places; Chaos overlaps the lines above and below.
  • Many username fields and some chat apps cap the number of combining marks; reduce the intensity if text is rejected.
  • Spaces are left clean so words stay separate.
  • To read cursed text you received, paste it in and select Clean pasted text.

What to expect from the result

Very heavy Zalgo can make text unreadable and slow to render on older phones. Some platforms remove combining marks entirely.

Zalgo Text Generator questions

How do I make Zalgo text?

Type your text above, choose an intensity and copy the result. The tool adds random combining marks above, through and below each letter.

Can I use Zalgo text on Discord, TikTok and Instagram?

Yes, in messages, posts and bios. Username fields often limit special characters, so use a lighter setting there.

How do I remove Zalgo from text?

Paste it into the box and select Clean pasted text. All combining marks are removed and the plain letters remain.

Why does the effect look different in some apps?

The effect is built from Unicode characters. Each app renders them with its own fonts, and a few (mainly usernames and older systems) block or strip unusual characters.

Are these effects accessible?

Screen readers may read special characters strangely or skip them. Use effects for fun and decoration, not for important information.
