What is a Christmas gift tracker?
A Christmas gift tracker is a list of the people you are buying for, the gifts you plan to give them and where each one is up to. It replaces the spreadsheet, the notes app and the back of an envelope. Add each person with a budget, add gift ideas with prices, and change the status as you go: Idea, Bought, Wrapped, Given. The tracker shows how much you have spent on each person, what is still to buy, and the total against your overall Christmas budget, so nobody is forgotten and nobody gets two presents by mistake. It also has a wish list mode, so you can make your own list to send to family.
How to track Christmas gifts
- Add everyone you are buying for in Add people. Type several names at once, separated by commas.
- Give each person a budget, or enter a total budget and press Split evenly.
- Add gift ideas with a price. Leave them as Idea until you buy them.
- Change the status to Bought, Wrapped and Given as you go, and use the filters to see what is still to buy or wrap.
- Print the plan as a shopping checklist, or keep it open on your phone while you shop.
Why use this christmas gift tracker
- Four clear stagesIdea, Bought, Wrapped and Given show exactly where each present is, which matters most in the last week before Christmas.
- Spent vs still to buyBought, wrapped and given gifts count as spent; ideas show as still to buy, so you see the real total before you shop.
- Works on your phoneNo spreadsheet formulas or Notion setup. It is a web page that works in any browser and remembers your plan.
- Imports wish listsOpen a shared wish list from a family member and add their wishes to your tracker as ideas with prices.
Common uses
- Big families. Parents, kids, in-laws, nieces and nephews in one view, with the filter for gifts still to wrap.
- Teachers, coworkers and neighbors. Add a group as one line, such as "Teachers", with a small budget and a few gift cards.
- Shopping early. Track gifts bought in sales from October so you do not buy the same thing twice.
- Couples sharing the shopping. Print the checklist so both of you know what is done.
How the totals work
- Spent is the total of gifts marked Bought, Wrapped or Given. Still to buy is the total of gifts that are still ideas.
- Each person’s bar fills dark green with what you have spent and light green with ideas still to buy. It turns red when you go over their budget.
- If you set a total budget, it is used for the overall bar. If not, the budgets of all the people are added up instead.
- Prices can be typed with or without symbols, such as 25, $25.99 or 1,200. Text like "about 30" is read as 30.
- Use a line such as "Stocking fillers" or "Christmas dinner" for spending that is not for one person.

Example: a family Christmas with a $450 budget
Five lines: Mom ($120), Dad ($100), Sam ($60), Grandma ($50) and Teachers and coworkers ($60), with a total budget of $450. A cashmere scarf for Mom is wrapped, Dad’s coffee grinder is bought, Grandma’s framed photo is given and her chocolates are bought. The tracker shows $190 spent, $120 still to buy (a photo book, a board game and gift cards), $260 left, and $60 of the total not yet assigned to anyone.
What to expect from the result
The plan is saved in this browser on this device. It does not sync between phones; if two people shop together, print the checklist or keep the plan on one device. There are no reminders or price alerts. Keep the gift planner private if the people you buy for use the same device.
Christmas Gift Tracker questions
How do I keep track of Christmas gifts?
Add everyone you are buying for, give each a budget, add gift ideas with prices, and update the status from Idea to Bought, Wrapped and Given. The tracker adds up what you have spent and what is still to buy for each person and overall.
Is this Christmas gift tracker free?
Yes. It is free with no sign-up, no app and no limit on people or gifts beyond what fits comfortably on a page.
Can I print my Christmas gift list?
Yes. Download PDF or Print gives a checklist with every person, their budget, what you have spent and each gift with its status and price, on US Letter or A4.
Will the people I buy for see my plan?
No. The gift planner is never shared and nothing is sent to a server. It is saved in this browser only, so if you share a computer, use a private profile or clear the plan after Christmas.
Can I use it as a Christmas shopping list?
Yes. Filter by Idea to see exactly what is left to buy, with prices, and keep the page open on your phone while you shop.
Is my list stored online?
No. Your lists and gift plan are saved in this browser’s local storage on your device, so they are still there when you come back. Nothing is sent to our server. A share link carries a copy of the list inside the link itself, after the # sign, which browsers do not send to websites.
